— OVERVIEW

Program Description

The Coconut Hybridization Program (CHP) aims to boost coconut production in the Philippines by producing and distributing high-yielding hybrid planting materials, along with proper nutrient support and farming practices. It supports the government’s initiative under Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to rehabilitate and expand the coconut industry through planting and fertilization programs.

Over the next ten years, the program plans to replace old and unproductive coconut trees with hybrid varieties and expand plantations in suitable areas. These hybrids are valued for their early maturity, higher productivity, and suitability for producing high-value products like virgin coconut oil, sap sugar, and fiber.
The program also promotes the planting of strong Open Pollinated Varieties (OPVs) as parent trees and aims to establish model farms that demonstrate modern coconut farming technologies.
